The Solar-Edge Power Optimizer is the newest components solar edge has on the market as of 2022. These optimizers are required to be installed if you are installing solar edge inverters. The inverters will not work without one of these optimizers on each panel. This is because solar edge now uses these power optimizers as their rapid shut down device. (this is no longer located inside the inverter). Rapid shut down is a National Fire Protection code saying the solar system needs to be able to be de-energized in a short period of time incase of emergency. (Because you can't just shut off the sun to stop power from flowing during a fire or emergency).
Another great benefit to the power optimizers is that they automatically disconnect panels if there are issues or lack of sunlight... Each panel string is wired in series connection meaning the first panel produces power that runs through the 2nd panel, the power made by the 2nd panel runs through the 3rd and so on for every panel in that string. If a bird lands on panel 3 then the power from panel 1 and 2 are now limited because of the lack of flow in the 3rd panel. What these optimizers do is disconnects that 3rd panel in particular because of the reduced sunlight and bypasses it allowing full power from panel 1 and 2 to flow by. This allows you get the most power out of your string.
